FAITH OKRAFO-SMART RECEIVES BEFFTA HUMANITARIAN AWARD 2013

BEFFTA awards has honoured the wonderful personality Faith Okrafo-Smart with a special honorary award BEFFTA HUMANITARIAN AWARD.
Faith Okrafo-Smart is a social policy and sociology graduate, a mother of one, writer, a PR consultant for several African film personalities and public figures. She has a passion to impact the lives of the needy in Sierra Leone and abroad. She is the founder of Melqosh Mission, an award-winning charity established to implement development strategies for education, health, trade, and employment for post-war afflicted amputees whose limbs were barbarically cut off during Sierra Leone’s ten year war. Faith who is also the recipient of Unsung hero award is committed to helping the marginalised and rejected and is zealous about providing life changing access to aid, services and opportunities for the beneficiaries(the direct victims of BLOOD DIAMOND) and their families; in order for them to lead meaningful and successful lives and be contributors to the development of their communities.
Pauline Long, BEFFTA founder said, “Faith has dedicated her entire life to supporting the vulnerable, we appreciate her efforts to help bring back life to a people that were denied justice. We will support her in her cause in every way possible.”
The multi-award winning pr consultant and philanthropist will pick up the BEFFTA HUMANITARIAN AWARD on 26th October at the grand BEFFTA UK AWARDS celebration at Hippodrome, Golders Green in the presence of an international audience. BEFFTA founder Pauline Long announced BEFFTA UK 2012 nominations live on SKY Channel 182 BEN TV – The Magazine Show. Pauline Long said the team was back in London this year to celebrate the best African/Caribbean achievers in entertainment, film, fashion, television and art. As the public nominate, the BEFFTA Members will be nominating too and drawing up the final list to be announced live on television.
Personalities nominated for BEFFTA awards include musicians, promoters, djs, models, designers, poets, television personalties, film directors, photographers, radio personalities, beauty pageant directors and more

BREAKING NEWS: Stars line up to raise funds for the Stephen Lawrence centre on 26th May at Hippodrome Golders Green

Top 15 musicians from different genres are coming together at BEFFTA THIS IS LOVE charity concert to raise much needed funds for the Stephen Lawrence Centre in order to help keep it open. The fantastic line up of stars include Soul legend Omar, singer/songwriter Don E, pop sensation of the famous band Five Star – Stedman Pearson, soulful singer Dionne Reid, RnB singer Myco Chris, Jazz sensation/soul singer Anthony everest with his full band Aremuorin.
Urban singer/songwriter and choreographer J-SoL will be performing with his full band. The audience at the concert will also be treated to the amazing sounds of the fantastic Afro-beats star May 7ven, and pop singer Racel Matthews and Sara Lili. Reggae artist Dego Ranks who has recently come from a tour in The Gambia , Africa is preparing to perform his best tracks too. Hiphop artist Cloud Silver Line will also be perfomring live with his band.
Some people have called him the male Adele, singer David O has a voice to envy. He will be performing live with his band at BEFFTA THIS IS LOVE concert. Pop sensation Aisling O’Reilly who is preparing to perform with The Wanted will also give her best performance.
A spectacular dance act with brilliant choreography is expected to open the concert followed by a short movie screening.
Among special guests on the night are CEO of The Stephen Lawrence Centre Paul Anderson-Walsh, Baroness Scotland, Lee Jasper and more.

Aspecial painting by Tse Ataa Mensah foundation has also been donated for auction.

Wretch 32, Wiley, Bashy, Scorcher and several stars have lined up in support for BEFFTA This Is Love Concert raising much needed funds for The Stephen Lawrence Centre. The concert which is set to take place on 31st March 2012 at The Light House has major talented names to perform including Omar, Don E, Myco Chris, Dionne Reid, David O, Dego Ranks, Stedman Pearson(FIVE STAR), Ayanna, Aisling O’Reilly, May 7ven, J-SoL.
BEFFTA founder Pauline Long recently caught up with CEO of The Stephen Lawrence Centre Paul Anderson-Walsh who gave her a tour of the great centre, he said, “The Lawrence family wanted to give Stephen’s dream to others. The centre’s initial intention was to be an educational centre, Stephen wanted to become an architecture but he did not get the chance. We have now expanded it and included media centre, business centre, art gallery for exhibitions and more. The memory of Stephen Lawrence is being used to wedge open doors for other people, the centre is open for everyone. Thousands of people have benefited from the centre to date and we would like to continue to give the services to the community but with their help to keep it open for as many years as possible.”
The BEFFTA This is Love Concert is promoting anti-hate/anti-violence, love and peace in London’s special year of Olympics and encouraging communities to come together and spread love and peace. The concert intends to bring unity within different communities through music. BEFFTA This Is Love concert which has support from various media houses including The Afro News and Playvybz radio will be attended by a host of celebrities and high profile guest including Baroness Scotland, Paul Anderson-Walsh who is the CEO of the Stephen Lawrence Trust, Lee Jasper and many more.
Some of the personalities who have joined the campaign are performing artists, creative artists, sportsmen, politicians, nurses, policemen, students, children and people from all walks of lives, all races and all ages.
Junior West Ham footballer and Olympic torch bearer Henry Ochieng Said, “I’m happy to support the concert as it’s for a great cause”.
Top UK rapper Wretch 32 said: ” The concert is for a good cause, I would like to see you all down there”.
Celebrity hairdresser Verona White said; “The concert is going to be great, it’s all about spreading love and giving back”.
Supermodel and designer and the official face and ambassador for BEFFTA This Is Love said: “This is a fantastic cause to suport and I’m extremely happy to the ambassador and face of it. It’s all about spreading love”.
Bigbrother star Heaven Afrika said, “I’m inspired and I want to get fully involved in this wonderful initiative”.

It has been 365 days of researching on BEFFTA nominees and BEFFTA founder who believes in being hands on has been at the forefront of it. Members of the public and BEFFTA Members sent in their nominations with the final decision made by the panel of BEFFTA Members. Today as we mark the beginning of Black History Month BEFFTA awards too marks the beginning of a campaign dubbed as 14 days of showing love and discovering the nominees.
Pauline Long said, “I would like to welcome every black and ethnic person to celebrate the Black History Month by showing love and support not only to BEFFTA awards UK 2011 nominees through voting but to all African/Caribbean businesses, organisations, charities and projects. FAB magazine gets a fabulous UK launch

What started just as an idea in 2009 has become Africa’s premier glossy magazine with a unique concept of double cover for both male and female readers. It’s almost like reading two different and creatively laid out magazines in one. FAB(Fabulous. African. Black) magazine launched in the UK at a glamorous event attended by top industry personalities Sola Oyebade of Mahogany models, New African Woman magazine chief editor Regina Malanda, tycoon and designer Alexander Amosu, BEFFTA founder Pauline Long and more.
The international magazine that currently sells in more than 8 countries which include UK, US, South Africa, Nigeria covers fashion, beauty and entertainment in Africa and beyond. Guests at the UK launch were treated to a fabulous catwalk show with top designers House of Jola, Nicol De Noir, Tina Lobondi, Zekaryas Solomon, Bestow Elan, Adjoa Osei, Ester Ndongala.

Have you met the Adebanjos? Brand new web-series that’s set to entertain black and ethnic community around the world recently launched at an exclusive private screening and press launch in London. The sitcom called Meet The Adebanjos is hailed as a revolution in the UK as the drama series that has been missing in the African and Caribbean communities. The independent production created and produced by a young talented writer and director Debra Odutuyo and co produced by former trader Andrew Osayemi has a cast of professional actors and actresses including the extremely funny comedian Tboy also popularly known as ‘Don’t Jealous Me.’
BEFFTA Member and founder Pauline Long and BEFFTA Member Ethel Elaka attended the exclusive private screening and were treated to the first episode of what is now officially the most hilarious sitcom around. As part of their duty as BEFFTA Members they attended the launch to scout fresh talent to be nominated for the 3rd annual BEFFTA awards set to take place on 22nd October at the Lighthouse.
